On Sunday 30th May we got another call to help catch a swarm. Unfortunately, between catching the swarm and installing it into my apiary on the Friday and getting the call to collect this swarm, I’d broken my wrist. Not the greatest start to my beekeeping career!
All was not lost, my trust assistant and brilliant husband Stuart, stepped into the breach. With no experience, he donned his bee suit and helped catch the swarm. He was definitely thrown in at the deep end.
I was disappointed and frustrated. Having been so happy and excited to finally get my own hive of bees, with only one working arm, I wasn’t going to be able to inspect them. The beginner became the teacher! The casual offer of help became a regular necessitary!
